The IMPORTANCE OF HAVING INTIMACY WITH GOD

It is important to know that God is the source of our existence and we are not here by mistake. God is the Creator of the heavens and earth and every living creature. We were created for fellowship with God and so much more.

  • We were made in the image and likeness of God.
  • We were created to serve God
  • When we praise and worship God we acknowledge that he is the one true God.
  • To be devoted
  • Love God wholeheartedly
  • Have a love for His Son Jesus
  • Walk blameless before a Holy God
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit withinyou,whom you have from God? You are not your own. {1 Corinthians6:19 ESV}

Having an intimate relationship with God means we must come with total obedience and trust. We need a heart that is fully committed and not full of distractions and busyness. A vital thing to consider is that you can’t come into this fellowship trying to follow God and the world. This my friend is a surefire way to have an intimate relationship with God.

BIBLE VERSES ABOUT INTIMACY WITH GOD

God desires to have a close relationship with you. So to get you started here are a few encouraging bible verses that will have you craving a more intimate relationship with God.

•	Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. {James 4:8 ESV}
•	And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11:6 ESV
•	Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. John 15:4-6 ESV
•	You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Deuteronomy 6:5 ESV
•	Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20 ESV

HOW TO DEVELOP INTIMACY WITH GOD

The good news is that you can start today developing intimacy with God.

READ THE BIBLE DAILY

When we spend time reading the Bible we get to find out more about God. Things like His attributes, commandment, and more. But you will never know the benefits and richness of reading, meditating, and studying the bible if you don’t open it daily. The Bible is where truth is found and a place where we get to know Him and hear his voice. Reading the bible is another path to developing intimacy with God.

  • Choose a translation that you can understand.
  • Pray for understanding of God’s Word
  • Find a quiet place

If we want to develop intimacy with God we start by walking with him daily. Walking with him daily means putting God first or making him a top priority.

WALKING WITH GOD

Two examples to follow

  • Jesus
  • Enoch
Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.{Mark 1:35 NLT}

This is an excellent example of how we can begin our day. We must find that quiet place and spend time with God daily.

And Enoch walked [in habitual fellowship] with God; and he was not, for God took him [home with Him]. {Genesis 5:24 AMPC}

Enoch walked with God daily “walked with God” means living a life consistent with God’s will and experiencing fellowship with Him. We can also walk with our God with total devotion and fellowship with Him daily. Friend this is a necessary requirement if you want to develop intimacy with God.

DRAWING NEAR TO GOD

 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. {Hebrews 10:22 ESV}

Developing intimacy with God is drawing near to Him. We need to focus our hearts and minds in the right place. In doing this you open an opportunity for God to draw near to you. {James 4:8 NLT}

To draw near to God is to come into his presence with prayer, praise, and obedience. However, if you reserve this for Sundays only, you won’t draw near enough.
